Envelope Printing Guidelines

Print Only Service

Printing your envelopes

Supplying your own envelope design, like guest addresses or a printed detail? Envelopes are a little different to flat card because of their folds and seams, so please read through these guidelines before requesting a quote.

File Setup

  • Supply a print ready PDF
  • Set your file to the exact size of your envelope, in millimetres. Please don't place the envelope on a larger page
  • Using a template? Delete it from your design before saving your PDF, otherwise it will print too

Keep Clear of the Edges

Envelopes can't be printed edge to edge because of the way they're folded and glued.

  • Keep all text and design elements at least 10mm from every edge
  • Full bleed (printing right to the edge) isn't possible on envelopes

Guest Names & Addresses

Please supply one page per envelope. For example, 50 addresses means a 50 page PDF, with one name and address on each page. See my guest name printing guidelines for more detail.

Text, Lines & Images

  • Very small or thin text and fine line drawings can print patchy, especially on textured envelopes, so keep things a comfortable size
  • Use good quality images. If something looks blurry or pixelated in your file, it will print that way
  • Keep in mind that coloured envelopes change how your design looks, and colours on screen can look different once printed

Ink Colours

Black or colour: no special setup needed.

White ink: set anything you'd like printed in white to 100% black, C0 M0 Y0 K100 (or #000000 in Canva). It will print as white.

Gold ink:

  • In InDesign or Illustrator, create a red spot colour (C0 M100 Y100 K0) named Gold, using a CMYK profile
  • In Canva, use red #ff0000 for anything you'd like in gold. See my Canva setup guide for more help

Choosing Your Envelopes

Browse my envelope options, including coloured envelopes and wax seals. Darker envelopes pair beautifully with white or gold ink.

Not sure if your file is ready? Send it through with your quote request and I'll let you know. For general file setup, see my print guidelines.
